The next Grand Cherokee

A teaser hint at something “Grand.” We think it’s Jeep’s new full-size SUV that’s scheduled to go into production in 2021, a bit before the next Grand Cherokee.

  • Jeep posted a teaser for a new model, and we think it’s referring to the upcoming Grand Wagoneer.
  • The Wagoneer will be a full-size, three-row SUV model to compete with the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban.
  • Expect it to debut within the next few months before going on sale next year.

Jeep posted a teaser on its social-media channels hinting at the impending debut of a new model with “Grand” in its name. We are pretty sure that the vehicle in question is the upcoming Grand Wagoneer rather than the next-generation Grand Cherokee, for a few reasons.

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

For one, the teaser text specifically refers to size, and the Grand Wagoneer will be a full-size SUV offering. Plus, a recent FCA investor presentation states that the new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models are scheduled to start production in the second quarter of 2021; the redesigned Grand Cherokee will start production in the third quarter. Earlier this year, Jeep delayed the production timelines for both of these new models due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jeep representatives told C/D they couldn’t share any details related to this upcoming reveal at this point. We’d guess that it will happen soon, as Jeep is likely planning to reveal the Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and next-gen Grand Cherokee before the end of the year. There’s also a mysterious three-row SUV offering mentioned in the investor presentation which is said to start production in the first quarter of 2021.

We look forward to hearing more about Jeep’s future products in the near future.

The performance version of Audi’s small sedan should arrive in the U.S. sometime next year.

  • Audi has revealed the S3 performance version of its new A3 sedan.
  • The A3 will arrive in the U.S. next year as a 2022 model, and we expect the S3 to follow.
  • The S3 has a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The S version of the new Audi A3 has been revealed and should arrive in the U.S. sometime next year. The 2022 S3 has more power than its predecessor and looks a bit more aggressive, too. Europeans will get an attractive S3 Sportback hatchback variant, but Americans will likely have to settle for the sedan version of the S3, as was the case with the previous-generation model.

Like before, the S3 has a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine, but it’s been upgraded to 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque—increases of 18 hp and 15 lb-ft. That power is routed through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. Audi claims a zero-to-62-mph time of 4.8 seconds, but given that we tested a 2017 S3 at 4.6 seconds to 60 mph, we reckon the new one will be quicker.

The S3’s suspension is lowered 0.6 inch compared with the standard A3 sedan, and adaptive dampers are optional. 18-inch wheels are standard with 19-inchers available as an upgrade. Visually, the S3 has a different grille treatment up front and four exhaust tips and a diffuser at the rear. The interior has some S3-specific trim pieces but otherwise maintains the modern appearance of the new A3’s cabin with a digital gauge cluster and a large central infotainment touchscreen.

Audi hasn’t yet released U.S. details about the S3, but we expect it will arrive on our shores a few months after the 2022 A3 sedan. Pricing should start a bit higher than the current S3’s $43,995 starting price. Now all that’s left to wait for is the new version of the even more powerful Audi RS3, which will likely offer upwards of 400 hp.
